Advocacy

The ultimate goal of our chapter is to change the lives of people with bleeding disorders, and one of the most important ways we do that is by educating people about the important issues that affect people in this community and advocating for changes that will improve their lives.  To this end, we participate in the following programs:

NHF Washington Days

Once a year, people affected by bleeding disorders gather in Washington, D.C. to storm the hill with solidarity.  Washington Days is a program organized by NHF's national office that teaches families how to talk to their federal legislators and sets up appointments for them to meet with senators and representatives from their home state. OBDC Statehouse Days

Somewhat similar to Washington Days, the Ohio Bleeding Disorders Council organizes an annual event called Statehouse Days.  This event prepares families to talk to state legislators about their disorder and pertinent issues that affect them.  Then the families attend meetings with state senators and representatives. Project Red Flag

One of the National Hemophilia Foundation's biggest initiatives is Project Red Flag, which is a campaigned that raises awareness of von Willebrand Disease by teaching girls and young women to recognize the signs and symptoms that may indicate they have this disorder that often goes undiagnosed.
