Educational Programs For Parents of Babies and Children with Bleeding Disorders First Step NHF's national office has developed a program called First Step that provides resources and support to parents of newly diagnosed children with bleeding disorders. [ more ... ] Skills Weekend On March 13th through the 15th, we'll teach around 15 families the skills they'll need to self-infuse, freeing them from the burden of relying on a home health service to arrive or travelling to a hemophilia treatment center to get an infusion. This event is held at Deer Creek Lodge and also includes several educational presentations by staff members of the local hemophilia treatment center at Nationwide Children's Hospital. [ more ... ] For Children with Bleeding Disorders Camp Bold Eagle The highlight of the year for many children with hemophilia, Camp Bold Eagle is a week-long summer camp put on by the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan. The camp provides an opportunity for children ages 6 through 13 to learn how to self-infuse in a supportive environment staffed by medical students and professionals from the local hemophilia and thrombosis treatment center. More than that, it's a chance for kids to make lifelong friends who understand what they go through and don't need an explanation of what a bleeding disorder is. [ more ... ] For Youth and Teens with Bleeding Disorders Eagle Outpost Eagle Outpost is another camp hosted by the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan for youth aged 14 to 16. Males and females with bleeding disorders are welcome on this weeklong adventure. Activities include swimming, canoeing, tubing, hiking, high and low ropes courses, team building activities, and group discussions about bleeding disorders and related complications, including HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. Leadership skills are promoted and campers are encouraged to join the Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) program at Camp Bold Eagle in the future. [ more ... ] Teen Transition Program For teenagers who are leaving home to go to college or to enter the world of work, the chapter offers the Teen Transition Program. This educational program gives teenagers the knowledge they'll need to manage their bleeding disorder on their own. Some of the topics discussed include scholarships, vocational rehabilitation, and insurance. [more ... ] For Adults with Bleeding Disorders Seminar Series Six times per year, we present a different topic relevant to adults affected by a bleeding disorder. These events usually take place at a restaurant or other local attraction and meals are usually provided at no cost to consumers. The topics discussed will vary from one time to the next [ more ... ] FAMOHIO Conference FAMOHIO, which stands for Family Annual Meeting, is Ohio's only statewide gathering of families affected by a bleeding disorder. The conference is a chance to not only learn about a variety of subjects, but also a time to have fun and make new friends, with activities for both young and old. This year's conference is August 7-9 and is held in Columbus, Ohio. [ more ... ] NHF Annual Conference Every year, NHF's national office hosts a conference that brings together families from all around the country to learn about issues related to bleeding disorders.
