Become a Volunteer
With around 1,000 people to serve and only two staff members in the office, a strong volunteer force is critical to the success of the Central Ohio Chapter of NHF. And we have a lot of different ways in which you can serve.
Become a Board Member
Our Board of Directors creates policies and make decisions that govern how the Central Ohio Chapter conducts its business. As a board member, you would be responsible for ensuring the Chapter makes sound financial decisions, is well-positioned for future growth, and is adequately meeting the needs of the bleeding disorders community.
If you’re interested in being considered for a position on the Board of Directors, please review the position description before downloading and filling out an information form. You can then e-mail that form to current Board President, Jim Wasserstrom.
Join a Committee
Whereas the board of directors is more of a decision-making body, our committees are much more involved in the work of the foundation. You don’t have to be a board member to serve on one of the committees, though you will see board members involved in each of the committees, as that is one of the requirements of being a board member.
Standing Committees
- Programs and Services Committee
- Development Committee
- Marketing & PR Committee
- Advocacy Committee
- Consumer Advisory Council
- Youth Advisory Council
Ad-hoc Committees
- Hemophilia Walk Planning Committee
- Spring Concert Planning Committee
- Summer Camp Exploratory Committee
If you’re interested in serving on any of the above-named committees, please contact the Chapter office.
Coordinate a Program or Event
Until the chapter is able to hire a Programs Manager, it will have to rely on volunteer program and event coordinators to work with chapter staff to implement its core programs and events. In this role, volunteers will coordinate almost all aspects of the program or event they choose. This may involve working within a budget, working with caterers, choosing a site, and a variety of other tasks. The following are programs or events where a coordinator is required:
Retreats and Networking Events
- First Step Program
- Next Step Program
- Stepping Out Program
- VWD Program
- Young Mens’ Program
- Older Mens’ Program
- Infusion Weekend
Family Fun Day Events
- Youth Night
- A Day at the Zoo
- Sports Night
- Annual Dinner
- Wildlights
If you’re interested in coordinating any of the above-named programs or events, please contact the Chapter office.
Volunteer at an Event
Our Hemophilia Walk requires about 100 volunteers and our Spring Concert nearly 20 volunteers. So if you are interested in working on the day of one of our big fundraising events, we could certainly use the help! Contact Events Manager Kindra Purtee for more information about these opportunities at (614) 429-2121 or kpurtee@hemophilia.org.
Volunteer in our Office
We welcome anyone who would like to either come in on a regular basis to help with administrative tasks or help with large mailings on an as-needed basis. If you would like to help in this manner, please contact the office.
