Patient Assistance Through a generous grant from the Cascade Hemophilia Consortium, the Central Ohio Chapter maintains an emergency fund for patients with bleeding disorders who need financial assistance for medical testing and treatments. These dollars can also be used to pay for “extras” such as parking, meals, and lodging when testing or hospitalizations last more than one day. Emergency funds are not given to families, but rather they are paid directly to the organizations providing services. Another thing we provide for families that cannot afford it are pieces of Medic Alert jewelry, which are meant to alert emergency personnel and doctors that the person wearing the piece has hemophilia or another type of bleeding disorder. This of course is critical when that person is unconscious or not able to communicate effectively with his or her caretakers. Decisions on whether to award emergency financial assistance are made on a case-by-case basis and are subject to availability of funds and the amount of the request. If you're in need and would like us to consider assisting your family, please contact Rob Alexander by e-mail at ralexander@hemophilia.org or by phone at (614) 429-2120. |
