Summer Camp
One of the major initiatives included in our current strategic plan is the development of a new summer camp program for children with hemophilia. We hope to have this in place by 2011 or 2012.
In the meantime, the Central Ohio Chapter tries to ensure that any kid who wants to attend a hemophilia-related summer camp has the opportunity to do so. So if a family cannot afford to pay for their child to attend one of these camps, we will cover the cost to attend.
The most popular camps our children attend are Camp Bold Eagle and the other camps put on by the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan. We can also send children to Camp HemoVon in Morgantown, WV or Camp NJOYITALL near Cincinnati, OH.
There is also a camp called Flying Horse Farms that provides unique and life-changing camp experiences for children with serious illnesses. Flying Horse Farms, located in Mt. Gilead, OH, has an extensive list of activities and a state-of-the-art, on site health center staffed with medical professionals from Ohio’s eight children’s hospitals. The summer 2011 participants with bleeding disorders will experience camp alongside kids who have cancer and sickle cell anemia.
Please contact the office if you are interested in attending any of these summer camps.
