Stepping Out (Ages 16-24)

As children with hemophilia become adults, many changes need to start taking place.  We encourage these changes to take place through our Stepping Out program, designed for young men who are 16-24 years old.  With this group, the parents take a backseat so that the young men can explore what it’s like to truly step out and manage their hemophilia, as well as their life in general, on their own.

The annual Stepping Out Retreat whisks away 10-20 young men to Hocking Hills for a weekend of adventure, laughter, a little bit of soul searching as they transition into college or the world of work and venture out of the nest for the first time.  As with all the other retreats, the guys inevitably come away with several new friends who can relate to them like no one else can.

The Stepping Out Coordinator, Ezra Wallake, will coordinate a few events throughout the year to keep everyone in touch and build on the relationships and concepts that were developed during the retreat.
